I met this family when working as a Speech-Language Pathologist at my first “real” out of college job. Margaret was an OT and Sara a rehab assistant. That was almost twenty years ago! Over the years, we have kept in touch through Facebook and occasional social or professional events. Four years ago, they commissioned me to photograph their entire family including their parents/grandparents who were visiting from the United Kingdom. I was honored. I had no idea what a wonderful time I would have with them. Ray and Joan are some of the most amazing individuals I have met and it is easy to see that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to this family (despite the trip “across the pond”).
When Sara asked if I was available to photograph the family again, this summer, I was truly honored and so thrilled to be able to spend time with all of them again. The children have grown taller, the toothless smiles replaced with braces, but one thing remains, the love and laughter among all of them. I know it isn’t polite to discuss people’s ages, but, HOLY SMOKES, Ray and Joan are truly an inspiration with their continued passion, whit, and love and zest for each other, their family, and life.
