Hi and Welcome!  Fanciful Photography is a natural light, newborn, baby, child, and family relaxed protrait photographer in southwest Florida.  Sessions take place on-location in  Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Venice and surrounding areas.  I will use this blog to post sneak peeks from recent portrait sessions and to announce specials and Fanciful Photography news.  I will also be sharing bits and pieces from my own life, sharing stories, marking milestones, and posting images and snapshots of my own family.  I hope that you will be able to gain a better understanding of me and my photographic style.

I have often been asked about how I got into photography.  Here’s the short of the story.  I started my college career at Florida State University as a communications/journalism major, having won photography awards in high school, I continued with a strong interests in photography.  Part way into my freshman year, I discovered another  branch in the College of Communications, and majored in Communication Science and Disorders.  I went on to graduate school at the University of Tennessee where I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.  I worked for 8 years as a full-time pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist, primarily with infants and children with feeding and swallowing disorders, children with autism, and medically fragile infants and children. It was often said that I had the ability to connect with children of all ages as well as their families.  I learned, prior to having my own, the blessing of children and how very important “family” really is.  I had images of clients plastered all over my office and  used pictures as a tool in nearly every aspect of therapy.  I saw first hand, the emotion a simple image could elicit. 

The dots finally connected for me in 2007 when I committed to doing more with photography.  After endless webinars, seminars, on-line tutorials, and mentorships, I took my photography passion to the next level.  Fanciful Photography was officially launched in 2009. 

What is Fanciful Photography? In a few words, I am an on-location, natural light, relaxed portrait photographer. I strive to capture the organic moments in every stage of life. The real moments. The natural interactions.  I do not strive for perfection in pictures.  I want to capture images that elicit vivid and distinct emotions each and every time they are seen. I want the image to tell it’s own story, without words.
